Have had this one for ages and hadn't managed to get to it. Took me a little bit to get back into this world, but then, wow! I remembered why I enjoyed the first 2 so much! Great characters, great world, great good vs evil scenario on many levels, as well as new adventures and learning for Morrigan leading her along her journey to really becoming a Wundersmith. Wouldn't have predicted how this one ended!!!

This is a book about a pandemic, in which a marginalized population is scapegoated, persecuted, caged, and generally dehumanized by the more powerful majority. There are times when it seems that those in power will do nothing but abuse that power to the detriment of everyone who is trampled along the way.

So much for escapism.

Still, it was excellent, with all the charm that I expected, if a little more reality than I needed. I don't know if the story itself was darker, or it just seemed that way because I was reading it...now. Regardless, I can't wait for the next installment, there are big changes afoot in Morrigan's life and I can't see wait to see how things are going to shake out.

The first two books of the Nevermoor saga were full of imagination and wunder (see what I did there?). While this one carries us further into the world Townsend is building, it lacked some of the originality, depth, and humor of the first two. Unfortunately Morrigan spends much of her time in this book with other adults in her life, while we miss out on seeing her build further friendships with her school companions.

It's still a fun read, and I'm interested to see where the saga goes, but it wasn't my favorite of the bunch.

Switched editions

There's something about these books that keep me coming back, even though I just "like" the story. Not super interested in the characters, but still curious to see what happens in Nevermoor.

I feel like no matter the age, you have to give people more credit. You need to be able to give people the power to make their own choices and not hide things from them to keep them safe. I know Morrigan is just a child, but there are ways to phrase things and to explain things that will make it so she doesn’t feel left out and feel that she needs to take things into her own hands in order to do what’s right. She will do a lot of things against the wishes of the adults around her because the adults don’t give her the option to see things another way.

I’m really enjoying seeing her journey as she learns to wield this power that she has for good rather than evil. Even though so many people see her as an evil entity, she is still fighting to show that her powers are not what they seem. They are wonderful. Scary yes but nevertheless wonderful.

I’m rooting for you, Morrigan!
